Die meeste tipes wol het onder druk verkeer die week / Almost all wool types were under pressure this week

MARKANALISE

Daar is in totaal 13,357 bale aangebied, waarvan 92.3% verkoop is. Die koper was Modiano. Baie geluk met die prestasie!

VOORUITSIGTE

Entstof is tans beskikbaar by OBP. MARKET ANALYSES

In Port Elizabeth the 12th wool auction of the 2019/20 season took place and the Cape Wools Merino indicator traded by 3% and 523 points lower and closed at a clean price of R169.41/kg. The Australian EMI decreased by 1.2% this week. The Rand traded 0.9% stronger against the US Dollar this week and 0.2% stronger against the Euro, compared to the previous sale. Almost all wool types were under pressure this week, with shorter wool which made out a too small percentage of the offer, to make any significant price comparison. The largest decrease this week of 5.8% was in the 22.5 micron segment. Modiano was the major buyer on the auction this week, followed by Standard Wool, Lempriere SA and Tianyu SA. A total of 13,357 bales were on offer, of which 92.3% was sold. On the OVK auction 3,126 bales were offered of which 93.7% was sold. The highest price of R145.00/kg was achieved for a 5 bale lot BFH of 17.7 microns, from the clip of  DG Forbes from Burgersdorp. The buyer was Modiano. Congratulations on the achievement!

FORECAST

This week the SA wool market followed the drop in the Australian market and even performed somewhat lower. The reason for the drop in the SA wool market can be attributed to the decrease in the Australian market, as well as the strengthening of the Rand against the main currencies at the time of the auction. The volumes of wool received in the stores of the brokers this week, are nearly 24% lower compared to the same week of the previous season. After a renewed outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in the Limpopo province, we want to reassure producers though that this will have no effect on the wool situation, for the stores of the brokers and specifically the facility of OVK, adhere to the standards set by the OIE, for the safe handling of wool, destined for export to China. OVK also wants to reassure producers that we do everything in our power to ensure the best possible service in order to enable the highest possible competitive market place. Producers must therefore still, in the light of the renewed situation, put serious focus on bio-security and ensure that flock health enjoys priority and that herds are protected against diseases such as Rift Valley Fever. Vaccines are available at OBP. Also secure, especially in the drought stricken areas, that focus is put on the general health of flocks and that the feeding status must enjoy priority, in order to optimise production and reproduction. By the application of strategic mineral and vitamin supplements, the immune systems of production animals as well as lambs can be stimulated, which will increase production and reproduction. It is also very important that producers must familiarise them of the animal health status of animals bought from other areas, to ensure that diseases like Foot and Mouth disease, as well as resistant parasites are not brought onto disease free farms. That could cause enormous negative economic results. The next wool auction is scheduled for 21 November 2019 where 13,582 bales will be on offer.
