Hierdie week het die SA wolmark die daling in die Australiese mark nagevolg en selfs ietwat onderpresteer / This week the SA wool market followed the Australian market and performed somewhat lower

MARKANALISE

Daar is in totaal 13,541 bale aangebied, waarvan 92% verkoop is. Die koper was Modiano. Baie geluk met die prestasie!

VOORUITSIGTE

MARKET ANALYSES

In Port Elizabeth the 10th wool auction of the 2019/20 season took place and the Cape Wools Merino indicator traded by 4.7% and 858 points lower and closed at a clean price of R172.90/kg. The Australian EMI decreased by 2.5% as well this week. The Rand traded 2.2% stronger against the US Dollar this week and 3% stronger against the Euro, compared to the previous sale. The fairly solid run of the market this week can be attributed to the increase in the Australian market as well as the weakening of the Rand, which had a significant influence on the second day of the auction. This week's offer consisted of high quality long Merino wool, with a limited offer of shorter types on the other hand. The largest decrease of 6.2% was in the 19micron segment. Standard Wool was the major buyer on the auction this week, followed by Modiano, and Tianyu SA and Lempriere SA. A total of 13,541 bales were on offer, of which 92% was sold. On the OVK auction 2,657 bales were offered of which 88.7% was sold. The highest price of R148.50/kg was achieved for a 2 bale lot BH of 17.0 microns, from the clip of Brummer Farming, from Ventersburg. The buyer was Modiano. Congratulations on the achievement!

FORECAST

This week the SA wool market followed the Australian market and performed somewhat lower. The main reason for the downward movement in the wool market can be attributed to the decrease in the Australian market, as well as the strengthening of the Rand against the main currencies at the time of the auction. Almost all micron groups showed a downward tendency. The market gained a little ground on the second day of the auction, with better participation amongst buyer houses. The volumes of wool received in the stores of the brokers this week, are nearly 6% lower compared to the same time of the previous season. Reports of a new outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in a feedlot north of Polokwane, has been received. We want to reassure producers though that this will have no effect on the wool situation, for the stores of the brokers and specifically the facility of OVK, adhere to the standards set by the OIE, for the safe handling of wool, destined for export to China. OVK also wants to reassure producers that we do everything in our power to ensure the best possible service in order to enable the highest possible competitive market place. Producers must therefore, in the light of the renewed situation put serious focus on bio-security and ensure that flock health enjoys priority and that herds are protected against diseases such as Rift Valley Fever. It is also crucial that producers put emphasis, especially in the drought stricken areas, on the general health of flocks and that the feeding status must enjoy priority, in order to optimise production and reproduction. By the application of strategic mineral and vitamin supplements, the immune systems of production animals as well as lambs can be stimulated, which will increase production and reproduction. It is also very important that producers must familiarise them of the animal health status of animals bought from other areas, to ensure that diseases like “Johne’s disease”, as well as resistant parasites are not brought onto disease free farms. That could cause enormous negative economic results. The next wool auction is scheduled for 14 November 2019 where 10,540 bales will be on offer.
