Hierdie week het die SA wolmark die daling in die Australiese mark nagevolg en heelwat laer verhandel / This week the SA market followed the decline in the Australian market and traded significantly lower.

MARKANALISE

Die koper was New England Wool. Baie geluk met die prestasie!

VOORUITSIGTE

MARKET ANALYSES

In Port Elizabeth the first wool auction of the 2019/20 season took place and the Cape Wools all wool indicator traded 28.3% and 5 837 points lower then the last auction of the previous season and closed at a clean price of R147.70/kg. the Australin EMI declined with 27.4% this week. The Rand traded 0.6% lower against the US Dollar this week, but 1.3% stronger against the Euro, compared to the previous sale. In spite of the fact that the auction experienced a decline of 34% on the first day of auction, the Australian market showed a recovery on Thursday, wich resulted in a stronger SA market. There was a healthy competion amongst buyers for longer and better types of wool, which had a positive influence on the SA market. Standard Wool was the major buyer on the auction, followed by Lemprierre SA, Modiano and Tianyu SA. 8634 Bales were on offer, of which 81.8% was sold. On the OVK auction 2865 bales were offered of which 86.5% were sold. The highest price on the OVK auction, of R154.00/kg was for a 2 bale lot BH of 17.7 micron, from the clip of Ghap Farming CC from the Britstown district. The buyer was New England Wool. Congratulations with the achievement!

FORECAST

This week the SA market followed the decline in the Australian market and traded significantly lower. The reason for the decline in the wool market is the slowness of purchase from China, which is the result of the ongoing trade war between the USA and China. The good news though, is that shipping of wool, which was still stored in the stores of the brokers from the previous season, because of the export ban to China, are in progress, after the requirements set by China, was met. The ban was the result of the Food and Mouth disease outbreak in the Limpopo province in SA and started already in February 2019. The result was severe negative financial implications for wool buyers, as well as the rest of the value chain. OVK can confirm though, that the set temperature requirements, for the exportation of wool to China, is met and buyers can therefore buy wool from OVK with peace of mind. Indications are there that the market sentiment has turned positive and that stability is expected for the near future. Futher we want to emphasize the importance of bio-security and producers must ensure that their flocks are vaccinated against contageous diseases such as Rift Valley Fever, Anthrax, etc. Traceability will also become an inextricable part of the wool industry and producers will have to be aware of that, in order to ensure further competition in the international environment. The next wool auction is scheduled for 12 September 2019, where ±9258 bales will be on offer. This report by Heinrich Victor, Operational Manager Fibre - OVK.
