Outstanding results were achieved on this week’s mohair auction of Cape Mohair & Wool (CMW), fibre division of the OVK group of companies.

On the official auction in the Mohair Exchange in Port Elizabeth there was great excitement when a two-year old world-record price for adult mohair was shattered. This when a price of R322,00/kg was paid for a lot from the clip of Coenie and Gawie Lategan of  De Lateganskuil  Farming in the Aberdeen district. This price exceeded the 2015 record of Richard Herold of Graaff-Reinet by R2, 00/kg. The bale tested 29,1micron, with a clean-yield of 86, 3%.

Pierre van der Vyver, Manager of the Mohair division at OVK, reports that they are equally proud of the CMW Binning-division which also broke a four-year old world-record price. The record amount paid was R317, 10/kg for ordinary adult mohair. The bale tested 30, 1 micron, with a clean-yield of 87, 5%. Both lots were bought by a local processor.

The highest price of the day was R480, 00/kg and went to Phlippie Retief of Boksfontein Farming in the Murraysburg district. This was for a good-style bale of 21, 9 micron with a 90, and 2% clean-yield. This particular bale was prepared according to the tried and tested EGT (Every Goat Tested) process.
